Business Luncheon - State of the Schools Address

Join us Tuesday, August 15 from 11:00 a.m. - 1 p.m. for the State of the Schools Address presented by Vanderbilt Health. Hear from Franklin Special School District's Director of Schools Dr. David Snowden, Williamson County Schools Superintendent Dr. Mike Looney, and Battle Ground Academy's Head of School Will Kesler about their strategic plans as well as funding, zoning and budget plans for the school year. 
 
The luncheon takes place at the beautiful Battle Ground Academy campus, where student art and various career and technical programs will be on display. If you or your company would like to invest in the school systems, be sure to check out the 'See a Need, Meet a Need' wall and meet the needs of local schools around Williamson County. Dr. David L. Snowden is serving in his sixteenth year as the Director of Schools for the Franklin Special School District. The FSSD has an approximate enrollment of 3,700 students, seven schools, 700 employees and a total general purpose budget of approximately $45.7 million dollars. He served as superintendent of the Pascagoula School District in Mississippi prior to accepting the position as Director of Schools for the Franklin Special School District in July, 2001. 
 
David is a member of the Franklin Noon Rotary and Board member of the United Way of Williamson County (Emeritus) and the Boys and Girls Club.  In addition, David is a graduate of Leadership Franklin and treasurer for the Steering Committee of Youth Leadership Franklin.
 
He and his wife Kathy have three children and seven grandchildren.

Will Kesler

Will Kesler developed a passion for education while studying English in college. After graduating from the University of Virginia, he returned to Chattanooga, his hometown, to take a teaching and coaching position at Girls Preparatory School. During his tenure at GPS he taught in grades 8 through 11, coached at the McCallie School and earned a master's degree in English at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. 

He then spent four years as the Director of the Middle / Upper School at Deerfield-Windsor School in Albany, Georgia, before returning to his home state to become the Head of School at Battle Groung Academy. Mr. Kesler says when he looked at BGA, he saw a school that was grounded in tradition but also open to innovation. He accpeted the head of school position with enthusiasm for the opportunity to pivot BGA in a modern direction and make positive changes. His family (wife Julie and kids Bennett, Ellen, and Walker) love being a part of BGA and living in Franklin as well.

When he is not involved in activiities at BGA, Kesler enjoys spending time with family and friends. He can foten be found cooking, reading, writing, listening to music, or getting outside to exercise, hunt or camp, and he is an avid sports fan. He is a member of Conerstone Presbyterian Church and Franklin Noon Rotary.
